We’ve got reason to celebrate!

If you’ve been watching the calendar, you’ll notice that it’s already been TWO YEARS since the Broken Spoke pumped up its first flat tyre, replaced its first sprocket, and had its first party. Our baby teeth are falling out and we’re learning to walk on our own as Cassiope leaves us for America’s green shores.

So it’s time to celebrate! In honor of our humble roots, we’re returning to where it all started: Restore Garden Cafe! Join us at 5pm at the workshop for a leisurely bike ride, or come to the cafe at 6 for nibbles, a raffle, a bike “pub” quiz, drinks, homemade cakes, and other fun surprises. We’ll be there until 10pm!

PLEASE NOTE OUR JULY NEWSLETTER ERRONEOUSLY SAID SEPTEMBER 6TH! IT’S ACTUALLY ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH!!

Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your bike. Let’s party!

But wait…there’s more! Scroll down for news of other exciting things we’ve got planned this month!

Pedal hard and in joy,
– Cassiope, Elle, Sam, and the Broken Spoke Team

2 year anniversary

CycleBOOM Partnership

This autumn, we’re working with a research team at Oxford Brookes University on a research study to understand cycling among the older population and how this affects independence, health and wellbeing. The ultimate aim is to advise policy makers and practitioners how our environment and technologies can be designed to help people to continue to cycle in older age or to reconnect with cycling.

We’re doing initial assessments of road skills to ensure that all partcipants are prepared to cycle throughout the duration of the study. If you’re interested in getting involved, visit their website: www.cycleboom.org

Are you a qualified cycle instructor?

As students arrive and the city wakes up for another academic year, we’re looking for qualified cycle trainers to join our fleet! You should have your own qualification in Bikeability tuition, and your own insurance. We appreciate people with a variety of 2-hour slots free to teach during the week or weekends. Competitive freelance pay!

If you’re interested contact cycletraining@bsbcoop.org with your name, email, qualifications, teaching experience, and a little bit about why you’re interested in joining our team.
