The Broken Spoke Bike Co-op is a community enterprise that aims to create an inclusive and environmentally aware cycling community in Oxford by creating positive learning spaces to break down the barriers to cycle ownership, maintenance and riding. We’re at an exciting time of change and are recruiting for two new roles. Cycle Instructor

Are you passionate about cycling and love supporting folk at all stages of their cycling journey? We’re looking for someone to assist with the delivery of Bikeability, National Standard cycle training. The training provides a basic skills (Level 1), basic on-road training course (Level 2) and an advanced skills course (Level 3) to children and adults. If you have experience in cycle training, a passion for facilitating learning, and you share our values, then this role could be for you.

Some of the responsibilities of the role will be to:  

  • Qualified Bikeability Instructor and regular, competent and enthusiastic cyclist who is able to impart that enthusiasm on to others.
  • Good understanding of local road and traffic environments and awareness of the surrounding areas for accurate navigation.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all trainees including children, parents and schools.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as alone while maintaining the safety of trainees and members of the public.
  • Adaptable, flexible and reliable

Practical stuff

This role will be starting as soon as possible.

Reports to: Operations Lead

Hours: Minimum 6 hours per month

Location: Broken Spoke office and workshop (St Thomas School, Osney Lane, Oxford, OX1 1NJ) and remote working with prior agreement 

Salary: £20 per hour for delivery; Oxford Living Wage for admin.

Contract: Permanent, fixed-term or freelance
